Another important point I would make, is that for awhile now a constant stream of ads & flyers have been cropping up inviting you to post your treasures for appraisal or to take them to a local roadshow for cash offers. in most cases you are relying on offers being fair & reasonable.
Remember fancy flyers do not always mean fancy prices. These folks will be trying to buy your items as cheaply as they possibly can. What you may not know is could you get more elsewhere and that's where I come in?

If you see buyers advertising via flyers, online ads, or local venue visits claiming they pay “good prices,” be cautious they may be lowering your expectations of what your items are truly worth.
Gold’s value is not affected by age or condition what matters most is the carat. For example, an 18ct gold ring can be worth twice as much as a 9ct one, so it’s important not to have everything grouped and sold as lower carat.
